Hurricane Irene targets in New York

A weaker but still dangerous Hurricane Irene was deliberately flooding in March to the East Coast on Sunday, defeating the region with torrential rains and strong winds that are responsible for at least nine deaths and three million power outages in homes and businesses

Irene, with sustained winds of about 75 mph, made his second country in as many days, before dawn Sunday near the inlet of New Jersey small egg. As the storm approached New York, the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for the city and some surrounding counties until 11 hours
Landing in the city was planned for later in the morning. New England and Canada are next on the blacklist Irene, but when the wind does not decrease more than it will succeed downgraded to a tropical storm.

The storm brought tornadoes Saturday in parts of Virginia, New Jersey and Delaware, where a tornado destroyed 15 buildings in the town of Lewes historic coast.
Parts of Virginia reported up to 16 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service. Areas of North Carolina reported to 14 inches.

For many in the region, the storm meant withdrawal of emergency.
Joseph Cunningham, 74, in a wheelchair, spent the day playing cards and socializing in elementary school-turned-shelter evacuees just outside Atlantic City.

"The services that are best for me, and I feel very fortunate to be here," says Cunningham.
Storm-related deaths, including two children, were reported in North Carolina, Florida, New Jersey and Virginia. In Goldsboro, NC, one died four years old when she crashed the car at an intersection, where Irene was knocked out power to traffic lights. And an 11-year-old boy was slain when a tree crashed through his Newport News, Va., apartment, shortly after noon Saturday.

A seventeen, the National Hurricane Center, the storm had gained momentum - a positive sign - and was moving north at about 18 kilometers per hour.
More than 2 million people along the east coast have been warned, or ordered from storm tracking flights.
New York City subway and bus mass arrest since Saturday. In Boston, the Transit Authority said that public transport will be closed on Sunday.
Air traffic has pledged to be flamed by the day in New York and Washington DC areas with more than 9,000 cancelled flights during the weekend. The five major New York airports were closed.
