Hurricane Irene: Get the latest travel tips for British holidaymakers to visit the United States

While Hurricane Irene continues on the path of America's East Coast, travel associations, tourist offices and airlines have issued travel advice for British holidaymakers planning to visit the United States
An announcement of travel on the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) website said that travellers should "local and international weather to follow" and that "British citizens have the advice of local authorities and tour to follow."
The site provides links to resources and information (see box below) for states that have declared emergencies, including North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.

He said: "Based on current predictive models, New York will begin to tropical storm or hurricane Saturday night or Sunday morning experience."
A spokesman for Visit USA Association - the state tourist offices, airlines, tour operators and towns - said: "For those who travel to the East Coast of the United States this weekend, we advise you to your airline or tour operator contact for the least- to-date information.
"For those who booked through a tour operator or travel agent, we recommend visiting the city or state you are travelling to, as most have updated information on Hurricane Irene and the potential impact on the environment."
He added: "Travellers should be aware that if the flight is cancelled or closed airports, it is unlikely that you will be able to change or cancel your flight and receive a full refund."
A statement on the website of the Travel Association ABTA has also conducted stakeholders at the site of the National Hurricane Centre, confirms that people have with their airline to check the latest information.

A statement released by Princess Cruises, said Aug. 25 that it was "closely followed by Hurricane Irene as it continues to grow."
The announcement adds: "At that time, according to forecasts from the National Hurricane Centre, we do not expect a direct impact on the route of the Caribbean Princess, the ship's scheduled departure to New York Saturday, August 27.
"We will take all necessary measures to reduce the impact of Hurricane Irene prevent the security of our passengers, crew and the ship is always our first priority. Passengers will be informed if changes are needed."
A spokesman for Virgin Atlantic, which flies to several U.S. cities including New York, Washington and Boston, said that all flights were now operating "as expected".
